Summary

Sapiens łączy biologiczne ujęcie z rozległą historyczną i kulturoznawczą perspektywą。 Y。N。 Harari chciałby, żebyśmy spojrzeli na siebie i nasze miejsce w świecie w nowy, prowokujący do myślenia sposób。

„Opowieść Harariego o tym, jak podbiliśmy Ziemię, oszałamia rozmachem i błyskotliwością”。 THE GUARDIAN
„Oryginalna i stawiająca wiele pytań wartych namysłu”。 EL PAÍS
„Yuval Noah Harari – historyk przyszłości”。 LE MONDE
„Kompleksowa historia tego, co czyni nas ludźmi”。 THE INDEPENDENT

Sapiens to jeden z największych światowych bestsellerów ostatnich lat。 Ponad 8 milionów sprzedanych egzemplarzy。 Hollywoodzką ekranizację książki przygotowuje Ridley Scott。

Fantastic story telling

Brandon

Quality tapers off toward the final chapters, but the entire first half of this book is packed full of fascinating ideas, compelling arguments, and novel perspectives and ways of thought。 Highly recommended。

This one took it out of me! Good! Really interesting, definitely could be summarized a bit more。 But zero regrets。

Pip

A fascinating metaview of the history of mankind aka Homo Sapiens。 Some provocative ideas about the role of religion and politics in the culture。

If the author had spent less ink on his seemingly steadfast opinions served up as absolutes he would have had more ink for currently established information。 He writes as if he is omniscient。

I wasn't particularly interested in the content of this book, but you can't deny it's researched impeccably and written well。 Even through some of the drier chapters, Harari keeps a pseudo-conversational tone and always compares what happened then to what happens now。If anything, this book confirmed the topics that I'm truly interested in learning about more, whether it be capitalism, the industrial revolution, or warfare。 I wasn't particularly interested in the content of this book, but you can't deny it's researched impeccably and written well。 Even through some of the drier chapters, Harari keeps a pseudo-conversational tone and always compares what happened then to what happens now。If anything, this book confirmed the topics that I'm truly interested in learning about more, whether it be capitalism, the industrial revolution, or warfare。 。。。more

Really enjoyed the first half of this book where the author describes the differences (and similarities) between early Homo Sapiens and our lives now。 I especially liked the point he made that humans have not changed physically in millennia, but somehow, we build nuclear bombs and our early predecessors didn't。 With time came an increase in communication as we built a global society。 We can communicate clearly with absolute strangers and relay abstract ideas。 Our ideas build on each other--we're Really enjoyed the first half of this book where the author describes the differences (and similarities) between early Homo Sapiens and our lives now。 I especially liked the point he made that humans have not changed physically in millennia, but somehow, we build nuclear bombs and our early predecessors didn't。 With time came an increase in communication as we built a global society。 We can communicate clearly with absolute strangers and relay abstract ideas。 Our ideas build on each other--we're not as alone/secluded as we used to be。 The author also made a good point that life now is more complicated than it was when Homo Sapiens were just hunter-gatherers。 We have less free time and we work longer now every day/week than our ancestors。 Things that have been invented to improve our lives really just make us busier。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book for the first half, but once the modern history and future started I really struggled to get through (as we can see - it took almost a year to read it)。 But overall if you are interested in the history and future of our species it is a good read!

Sapiens is a relatively short book - around 500 pages - if what you're trying to write is a classical, stereotypical, History of Humankind, full of historic events and renowned kings and politicians。 Yuval Noah Harari, of course, tried to write no such History。 Instead, he did something far more interesting: he pulled himself back, took a wider view of History, and sought to reflect on it。 One seems to think that to further your historic knowledge is to know more and more intricate details about Sapiens is a relatively short book - around 500 pages - if what you're trying to write is a classical, stereotypical, History of Humankind, full of historic events and renowned kings and politicians。 Yuval Noah Harari, of course, tried to write no such History。 Instead, he did something far more interesting: he pulled himself back, took a wider view of History, and sought to reflect on it。 One seems to think that to further your historic knowledge is to know more and more intricate details about the events that have transcurred。 Harari exemplifies how the opposite can prove more insightful。This being said, it could be said that this is less of a History book and more of a book that reflects about History。 A sort of philosophy of history, if you will, heavily influenced by a biological perspective on what it means to be a Homo Sapiens。 Harari identifies four determining moments of our History: the Cognitive Revolution (when Sapiens evolved imagination), the Agricultural Revolution (when agriculture was first developed, duh), the unification of humankind (the slow process of globalization) and the Scientific Revolution (the disruption caused by the development of exact sciences)。 He finds these and other common threads (such as the development of money, the creation of Empires, etc。) that explain the logic behind historic processes; and in the end, he speculates on where we might be going from here。 In the end it is a very interesting read, but always useful to remember that this is more supposition than fact; so take it with a grain of salt。 Side effects may include complete loss of hope in Humanity。 。。。more

A bit too opinionated especially the last parts but still providing insights and new perspective about the history and sociology of humans。 There are some interesting trivia and new facts for me while reading and understanding how the author thinks about humankind (which is also interesting)。 An enjoyable read but could have been based on a firmer foundation

I loved how Harari doesn't just describe fact after fact, but looks at the bigger picture of how we as humankind changed in our ways of thinking and living。 He uses lots and lots of interesting examples and stories of our history to explain his view。 I also really liked his objectiveness and progressive view he shows in the book, almost his philosophy on history。 All in all, a lovely read。 I loved how Harari doesn't just describe fact after fact, but looks at the bigger picture of how we as humankind changed in our ways of thinking and living。 He uses lots and lots of interesting examples and stories of our history to explain his view。 I also really liked his objectiveness and progressive view he shows in the book, almost his philosophy on history。 All in all, a lovely read。 。。。more

Finally finished it。 At times it’s cosmic in scholarship。。。 and yet at other times it seems to be paragraph after paragraph of ramblings。 Solid work by a pioneer of our time but needs better editing。

Allie

I was so excited for this book but it’s honestly just really。。。dull? And seems to take for granted that its (sometimes outlandish) claims about human nature and civilisation are correct。 If you paint humankind with such broad strokes, you cover details and lose texture。 It was reductive and made me sad。

Denne boka er noe av det beste og mest opplysende jeg noensinne har lest。 På en fengslende, men tidvis frekk måte formidler Yuval Harari åpenbare sannheter som du aldri har tenkt på。

This was really well done overall。 Obviously some parts were more interesting than others, I was particularly intrigued with the very beginning (Neanderthal - Sapiens) and the very end (how we quantify happiness)。 One we hit the agricultural revolution up until the theory of money and capital, I wasn’t as interested。

An excellent read which provides a succinct overview of how the world came to be。 Removing 2 stars from the review for the following。 The only challenge to the author is the credit given to Europeans for the scientific revolution as something extra-ordinary。 The fact is that they built upon other things that had been created / invented earlier。 Also, innovation tends to be emphasised more where paucity exists, thus forcing the current populace to drive in a different direction as the most lucrat An excellent read which provides a succinct overview of how the world came to be。 Removing 2 stars from the review for the following。 The only challenge to the author is the credit given to Europeans for the scientific revolution as something extra-ordinary。 The fact is that they built upon other things that had been created / invented earlier。 Also, innovation tends to be emphasised more where paucity exists, thus forcing the current populace to drive in a different direction as the most lucrative ones are already taken。 Lastly, the credit of Indian independence to be given to British and making a hullabaloo of their building railways doesn’t add to the overall story 。。。more
